Epidemiology of paraneoplastic neurologic syndromes...
Paraneoplastic neurologic syndromes (PNSs) and autoimmune encephalitides (AEs) are rare neuroimmune disorders that are both characterized by the presence of autoantibodies that target the nervous system. Despite their associated human and economic costs, these neuroimmune disorders have seldom been the subject of epidemiologic studies.
The main objective of this study was to measure the incidence of PNS and AE and their subgroups registered with the French National Reference Center between 2016 and 2018 inclusively. The secondary objectives were to evaluate the regional heterogeneity in incidence of declaration and quantify underreporting by providing an expected incidence rate based on the predicted rates calculated for the area surrounding the Reference Center.
